DOT picks NH co. for highway project

The Maine Department of Transportation yesterday said it has chosen a New Hampshire company for a highway construction project that will close both southbound lanes of I-295 between Gardiner and Topsham over the summer.

Pike Industries, which has several offices in Maine, will rebuild the 22-mile stretch of road and employ 150 people on the job, according to the Portland Press Herald. During the three-month project, a detour on Route 201 through Richmond is expected to dump 10,000 extra vehicles per day onto that road, the paper said.
