This past weekend’s Drive Fore Kids charity golf tournament, held in Falmouth, raised $210,000 for two impactful charities and attracted 12,250 fans. Some fans stayed put at certain holes, while others walked the course.
Proceeds will benefit the Dempsey Center and the MaineHealth Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, who will each receive $105,000 to support their work.
Brian Corcoran, CEO of Portland-based Shamrock Sports & Entertainment, launched Drive Fore Kids in 2023 and serves as its executive director. He was recognized on the Mainebiz Next list in 2016 for his contributions to Maine’s economy.
This year’s proceeds are expected to go up, as Drive Fore Kids continues to accept donations at www.driveforekids.com.
Trading in his hockey stick for a golf club, former NHL forward Joe Pavelski won the tournament at the Falmouth Country Club with 40 points in a Stableford scoring system. That’s where players earn points based on their score relative to par on each hole, rather than counting total strokes.
The 41-year-old Wisconsin native played with the San Jose (Calif.) Sharks for 16 seasons and led the team to its first Stanley Cup finals in 2016.
Pavelski was joined on the course by a host of other celebrities, including Portland Hearts of Pine soccer player Ollie Wright and actor Patrick Dempsey, who founded the Dempsey Center in Lewiston in 2008 to help make life better for people with cancer. The Dempsey Center also has a Westbrook location at Rock Row.
Tournament organizers also recognized Kevin Moschella, owner of the Minibar mini golf and restaurant venue in Portland’s East Bayside neighborhood, as its 2026 Partner in Purpose for his company’s commitment to community, charity and economic impact in Maine.
