A developer’s interest in developing an eco-resort near Acadia National Park has park stewards concerned.
During two closed-door meetings this week with state and area officials, Bruno Modena of Milan, Italy, proposed building an eco-resort on 3,300 acres he owns near the entrance to the Schoodic Point section of Acadia National Park, according to The Ellsworth American. Mike Saxl, former speaker of the Maine House of Representatives and principal of an Augusta consulting firm, requested the meetings on behalf of Modena.
Saxl told The Ellsworth American that plans for the area are too preliminary to include details, but one meeting participant said the proposal includes two hotels, an “Audubon-certified” golf course, and housing. The superintendent of Acadia National Park and the director of the nonprofit Friends of Acadia both expressed concerns the development could compromise the park, according to the Bangor Daily News.
