El Rayo sees the light with new Portland location

Portland, your months-long nightmare is almost over as the owners of El Rayo Taqueria are planning to open the Mexican restaurant’s new home in the city’s downtown by the end of July.

The Bangor Daily News got an inside look at the eatery’s new home at 26 Free St., where owners Tod Dana and Alex Fisher were more than happy to show off the restaurant’s 40-seat raised deck and 20-seat bar made of Indonesian wood.

El Rayo’s new Portland location will also serve on-the-go breakfast with a menu that includes breakfast burritos, frittatas, fruit and, of course, coffee, from the Kingfield-based Carrabassett Coffee Co.

“After being slightly outside the downtown, we are right in the mix,” Fisher told the BDN.
