Electricity prices for Maine residents and small businesses will increase between 2.5% and 3% as of March 1.
The Maine Public Utilities Commission yesterday accepted bids for its new standard offer energy prices for customers of Central Maine Power Co. and Bangor Hydro-Electric Co., according to a press release from the PUC. The increase is due to high fossil fuel prices, which have a large effect on wholesale electricity prices in New England, the release said.
Ninety-nine percent of CMP’s and BHE’s customers receive standard offer service.
