Ellsworth earns accolades for JAX expansion

The city of Ellsworth was named “2016 Community of the Year” by the Eastern Maine Development Corp., the Ellsworth American reported on Monday.

Micki Sumpter, the city’s economic development director, said the award recognizes Jackson Laboratory’s $140 million redevelopment of a former Lowe’s Home Center site, as well as the city’s efforts to become a business incubator and create better internet service.

EMDC, which is based in Bangor, oversees economic development in four counties: Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis and part of Waldo.
