Joyce Hedlund, president of Eastern Maine Community College, is leaving the Bangor school to head up its sister institution in Washington County.
Hedlund will begin her new post as president of Washington County Community College in Calais on July 1, taking a position left open when William Cassidy retired at the end of 2009, according to the Bangor Daily News. Hedlund spent 16 years as president of EMCC, but wanted to move to Washington County with her husband.
A search for Hedlund’s replacement will begin in early February, and a new president is expected to be chosen for the 2010-2011 academic year.
