EMDC gets federal help for economic recovery

The Eastern Maine Development Corp., a private, nonprofit organization based in Bangor, is receiving a $187,000 federal grant to help part of its service area recover from the loss of major rail services and paper production in the region surrounding Lincoln, Milo and Millinocket.

The Associated Press reported the funds come from the Economic Development Administration in its effort to assist Penobscot and Piscataquis counties develop an economic recovery plan with hopes of attracting private investment and creating new jobs.

EMDC serves Hancock, Penobscot and Piscataquis counties as well as portions of Waldo county and is the largest economic development district in Maine.
