Nova Scotia-based Emera Inc., parent company of Bangor Hydro-Electro Co., has secured a $1 million naming rights deal for a new astronomy center at the University of Maine’s Orono campus.
The university broke ground on the project, which will be called the Emera Astronomy Center, earlier this week.
The project is mostly funded through a $3.2 million anonymous donation and will have a 33-foot planetarium dome and an observatory hosting the largest telescope in the state.
