After installing a cogeneration heat and electricity plant more than 18 months ago, Eastern Maine Medical Center says its energy costs dropped by $800,000.
In total, the Bangor hospital says it saved about $1.6 million in 2007, if calculations include the rising prices of energy, according to the Bangor Daily News.
The 3,400-square-foot cogeneration plant, which burns natural gas, cost $8.4 million to complete in August 2006, the paper reported.
