The Conservation Law Foundation is suing the Maine Public Utilities Commission in Maine Supreme Judicial Court, arguing that the PUC is not making full use of allotted energy efficiency incentives.
Maine Public Broadcasting Network reports that the environmental group objects to the PUC’s 30% cut in the budget proposed by the Efficiency Maine Trust. The trust provides resources and financial incentives to residents and businesses in the state to become more energy efficient.
Incentives include subsidizing the cost of using energy efficient LED lighting and appliances. MPBN reports that the goal of the incentives is to cut energy use and save consumers money.
