EPA cleans up South Paris tannery

The Environmental Protection Agency has completed an environmental cleanup of the site of the former A.C. Lawrence Tannery in South Paris.

The cleanup took two years, cost $4 million and involved the excavation of 33,000 tons of chromium-contaminated soil and the restoration of the bank of the Little Androscoggin River, according to the Associated Press.

Local and state agencies helped with the cleanup, the AP said.
