FAA doles out $500K to airports

Three Maine airports are receiving more than $500,000 in federal funding for infrastructure improvements.

U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins yesterday announced the $542,509 in Federal Aviation Administration grant funding in a press release. Millinocket Municipal Airport received $80,750 for land acquisition as well as $90,000 for infrastructure rehabilitation, while Central Maine Airport in Norridgewock received $136,759 to remove runway approach obstructions. Auburn/Lewiston Municipal Airport received $235,000 to conduct an environmental study.

Last July, the Auburn/Lewiston airport received $369,907 from the FAA to buy land for a planned runway extension.
