Fairchild Semiconductor in Portland has reached a settlement with a German company over patent lawsuits.
The South Portland-based company said in a release yesterday that it has settled with Infineon Technologies of Neubiberg, Germany, over patent infringement for semiconductor technology, according to a press release. The two companies sued each other in Maine and Delaware courts in November 2008 over 14 patents for chip technology, according to a release from Infineon, and as part of the settlement have entered into a cross-licensing agreement for the technology. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed, but Fairchild said it will record a $6 million charge in the fourth quarter related to the settlement and licensing agreement, and Infineon said Fairchild will make payments to the company, according to the releases.
Infineon operates in the United States through a subsidiary based in Milpitas, Calif.
