FairPoint Communications said yesterday that it has hired an additional 45 service representatives at its customer service center in Portland to support growing orders.
The company said the new employees, who are union-represented, will serve Charlotte, N.C.-based FairPoint’s business and wholesale customers. The employees are being trained and will be on the job by mid-November. The company has been plagued by customer service problems since it switched over Verizon’s landline business in northern New England.
As part of the acquisition of Verizon’s business, FairPoint committed to creating approximately 280 new jobs in Maine. FairPoint said it has already met that obligation and has created approximately 400 new positions.
