An election day survey in Falmouth has found a majority of respondents would support town regulations to curb single-use plastic shopping bags.
The Forecaster reported that several questions were posed to gauge whether residents would support a crackdown on plastic bags. Results from the survey showed more than half of the respondents use reusable bags, with 37% of those polled favoring an outright ban on plastic bags, 20% wanting no regulation, 30% favoring a 5-cent fee and 13% favoring a 25-cent fee.
An informational meeting on Tuesday also was held at Falmouth Memorial Library to discover the sentiment of local businesses, but only two businesses sent representatives.
A recommendation on possible regulations is expected to be submitted to the town council by early 2015.
