Labor Commissioner Laura Fortman told Maine Public Broadcasting Network the increase indicates that more people are resuming their job search and re-entering the labor force. Maine was one of 27 states to see unemployment rise in February, though the rate remains below the national average of 9.7%, according to the Associated Press. New England’s average unemployment rate in February was 9.2%, MPBN reported.
