Companies with 50 or more workers will have a one-year extension on providing affordable health insurance for their employees, the Obama administration announced Tuesday.
The Associated Press reported the decision will push back the start of escalating taxes on companies with over 50 employees that have any employees receiving government-subsidized insurance.
The move pushes the enactment of those penalties past next year’s mid-term elections, during which the AP reported Republicans planned to make the Affordable Care Act penalties a campaign issue.
The New York Times reported the White House announcement did not mention any delays to the implementation of health care exchanges, where individuals will be required to shop for health care policies or face tax penalties.
Those exchanges are set to take effect Jan. 1, 2014.
