Two Maine airports are receiving more than $5 million in federal funding.
The Portland International Jetport will get a $2.7 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration, which will be used to construct runway safety areas, according to a press release from Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins.
The Augusta State Airport will also receive $2.7 million to purchase an aircraft arrestor system to prevent planes from going off the runway. The overall project is expected to cost $10 million, and the airport plans to seek additional grant money to install the system, according to the Kennebec Journal.
