Federal workplace safety regulators are investigating an accident at the Auburn Mall, where a contractor fell through a roof skylight and sustained critical injuries.
The Lewiston Sun Journal reported that the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s investigation is expected to take as long as two weeks. Karen Billups, assistant area director for OSHA, said protection is required for anyone working on roofs.
The investigation was launched after George Beam, an employee of Biddeford-based Atlantic Comfort Systems, dropped through a skylight Wednesday and landed 20 feet below. He remained in critical condition as of Thursday.
