An early morning fire on Sunday destroyed three buildings in downtown Fort Kent, displacing at least three businesses and an unknown number of residents. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The fire destroyed historic buildings on West Main Street that were home to Nadeau’s House of Furniture, Acadia Home Care and China Garden Restaurant, according to the Bangor Daily News. Nearby businesses, including Sears, were also damaged. Several apartments were also destroyed, and all tenants were safely evacuated. Firefighters from nine departments in Maine and New Brunswick responded to the blaze.
Owners of the furniture business said it was insured. It’s unclear if the other businesses also had insurance.
