Organizers of the American Folk Festival held annually in Bangor have cut its operating budget by $140,000 to help put the festival on stronger financial ground.
The festival’s board of directors presented the festival’s 2010 budget at a press conference yesterday, highlighting how it would trim its budget while keeping the festival free to the public, according to the Bangor Daily News. Among the changes is a reduction in the number of stages from six to four, bringing in fewer performers and adding more crafters and vendors to bring in more revenue. The 2010 budget also sets aside funds to repay the $280,000 debt the festival owes the city of Bangor.
Festival representatives will present the budget to the Bangor City Council on Feb. 1, according to the paper.
