Bayley's Seafood Restaurant in Scarborough closed Thursday, Aug. 20, marking the end of three decades as a Pine Point Road dining spot.
The closure came during the restaurant's first summer back in operation after a series of setbacks that kept it off the dining scene for an extended period.
The owners announced on social media Thursday afternoon that they had made the "very difficult decision" to permanently close, thanking its customers, friends and the community for their support over the years.
"This has been an incredibly meaningful chapter, and we are so grateful to everyone who supported us, shared a meal with us, celebrated with us, and made memories inside these walls," the owners said in the post. "We are especially thankful for the friends and customers who continued to come through our doors and support us along the way.
"To our staff, our customers, our friends, and our community — thank you. We could not have done it without you."
Bayley’s Seafood has been a Pine Point staple since it opened in 1995. The family-owned restaurant is located at 165 Pine Point Road in Scarborough and has been serving generations of locals and summer visitors.
The setback
The closure follows a difficult period for the restaurant. In recent years, the business was sidelined for extensive repairs following a burst pipe that caused significant damage. The business had been closed since 2022. Mainebiz previously reported on the restaurant's struggles and the impacts the repairs had on the business.
The long-awaited return finally came in fall 2025. The business announced on social media on Oct. 5, 2025, that it was finally back open for business.
For decades, Bayley's competed for seafood customers with nearby Ken's Seafood, located just up Pine Point Road. Ken's remains a busy destination, with customers often waiting in line during the busy summer season.
