Hank & Artie’s, a Maine food truck known for smash burgers, fries and rotating specials, is now parking at 427 Fore St. in Portland's Old Port Square District, next to the Old Port Square Garage.
The truck will serve burgers Thursday through Monday from noon to 8 p.m. through Oct, 31. It is joining a lineup of food trucks that rotate through the Old Port Square area, including K-Pop Kimbap, which opened in the area in July.
Hank & Artie’s has been operating as a pop-up at Argenta Brewing Co. since 2024, in addition to its food truck operations around Portland.
Smash burgers, whose exact origins are debated, are essentially made by smashing a ball of ground beef onto a hot griddle or skillet. Hank & Artie's menu features signature made smash burgers with locally sourced ingredients, along with fries and monthly burger-and-fry specials.
About the business
The business was founded by Portland chef Sean Telo, who initially launched Hank & Artie’s as a pop-up at North Deering's G&E Fest with fellow chef Colin Minte. Telo spent decades working in restaurants in Chicago, New York City and Atlanta before moving to Portland more than six years ago.
Today, Hank & Artie’s operates multiple food trucks staffed by local chefs, who bring their own perspectives to the rotating specials while maintaining the truck's signature menu.
Telo said he chose the food truck model in part to create a different type of workplace for experienced chefs, with consistent daytime hours, a smaller team and more opportunties for creative ownership.
