For our
cover story, Deputy Editor Renee Cordes addresses disabilities that are part of everyday life for some Maine leaders. The aim of her story is “to shed light on what life is like for leaders who have overcome physical setbacks — and the life lessons that came with those struggles.”
Elsewhere in the issue, Senior Writer Laurie Schreiber untangles a relatively
new trend in health care coverage. Direct primary care provides direct provider access through a flat membership fee with no deductibles or co-insurance, along with direct access to significant discounts on imaging, labs and medications as part of their membership. As one such provider tells Laurie, “Ten years ago, there were maybe six DPCs in Maine. Now there are over 50.”
This issue also has two lists, ranking Maine’s largest nursing homes and hospitals.
