In the new year, I wanted to share some news about a change in ownership and leadership at our parent company.
Peter Stanton, our longtime owner and CEO of New England Business Media, is set to retire at the end of January after 46 years in the publishing business.
New England Business Media is the parent company of Mainebiz, Hartford Business Journal and Worcester Business Journal. It is based in Worcester, Mass.
In 2007, Peter Stanton and his business partner Joe Zwiebel purchased the three publications from Worcester Publishing and formed New England Business Media.
Under Peter’s ownership, Mainebiz grew from a monthly publication to the news organization you know today, offering enewsletters and 28 print issues and more than 15 events a year.
Many of you have probably met Peter at various Mainebiz events. The team will miss his energy and entrepreneurial spirit — and his homemade granola.
Six years ago, a seasoned business-media exec from New Jersey, Tom Curtin, acquired Joe Zwiebel’s share of New England Business Media. And then late last year Tom acquired Peter’s share of the business, and is now CEO and principal owner.
In a related move, Mainebiz Publisher Andrea Tetzlaff takes on the additional role of chief operating officer at the parent company. She will continue her role as Mainebiz publisher.
As we wish Peter well in his retirement ventures and Tom good luck in the new venture, Mainebiz is committed to continuing our mission of offering local, independent journalism.
