Tanya Emery, director of community and economic development for the city of Bangor, received FUSION:Bangor’s Leadership and Vision Award at its annual awards ceremony on Friday.
The volunteer organization’s signature award recognizes an individual, organization, or business that promotes the common good of young people in the greater Bangor Region.
Past recipients have included Bangor Savings Bank, Darling’s and Bangor City Council Chairman Ben Sprague.
FUSION:Bangor cited Emery’s leadership in providing business assistance to local companies, in marketing programs for the city and in overseeing loans for housing rehabilitation.
“Most recently, she helped organize the Housing Work Group, a panel of stakeholders from private and public sectors working on innovative solutions to provide affordable, quality housing in the Bangor region,” the organization said in a news release.
Emery has worked in economic development for the Bangor region for 17 years. In her current role as director of community and economic development, which she’s held since 2013, Emery is responsible for the city’s community development, economic development, code enforcement, planning, and property management functions.
