The Maine Gambling Control Board yesterday voted not to extend its voluntary moratorium on the expansion of gambling in the state, according to the Bangor Daily News.
The board’s moratorium on new gambling projects in Maine was to provide it with time to assess the effects gambling would have on the state. However, the impact study was never funded, the paper said.
The board also decided to abandon the moratorium because, despite the requested hiatus, numerous gambling proposals surfaced anyway, including a Oxford Casino that voters will decide on in November.
