🔒Garelick Farms to close two distribution plants

Garelick Farms, a dairy company owned by Texas-based Dean Foods, plans to close distribution facilities in Hermon and Caribou as part of a consolidation plan in Maine.

The Bangor Daily News reported the closures will affect 30 employees at Garelick Farm’s Hermon facility and four employees in Caribou. Those employees, however, would be rehired by a third-party distributor Garelick Farms will be using to distribute its products in Maine, the newspaper reported.

In January 2013, Garelick Farms closed its dairy production facility in Bangor, laying off 35 employees and shifting its production to plants in Franklin and Lynn, Mass., and Rensselaer, N.Y.
