In the past week, the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in the state rose by two pennies.
During that same period, the average national price for a gallon of gas rose by 3 cents to $2.14, according to the popular price tracking website GasBuddy.
The $2.22 statewide average reported on Monday is still roughly 30 cents lower than one year ago and is higher than New Hampshire’s $2.11 average price per gallon and higher than Vermont’s average price of $2.21 per gallon.
“Gasoline prices are rising, once again, driven by rising crude oil prices and rising U.S. demand,” said Will Speer, a senior analyst at GasBuddy. “And yet, the U.S. average price of gas today, $2.14 per gallon, is down 38 cents from last year’s average of $2.52 on this date. Today’s average is just 10 cents more than the average Americans saw on this date in 2009.”
