Who We Are
Through Girl Scouts of Maine, girls across the state grow in confidence, explore with curiosity, and discover who they are meant to be – all while building strong connections and a true sense of belonging.
The Girl Scout Leadership Experience is a one-of-a-kind journey that helps girls in grades K–12 build courage, confidence, and character. Through our four key program pillars – STEM, Outdoors, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship – girls rise to challenges, embrace their individuality, and grow as changemakers.
This experience is driven by three core processes:
• Girl-Led: Whether choosing badges or planning a hiking trip, girls lead the way and build confidence as they pursue what excites them most.
• Learning by Doing: From starting a business to advocating for change, hands-on activities spark growth, resilience, and leadership.
• Cooperative Learning: Girl Scouts build lasting friendships while working together to explore, problem-solve, and support each other every step of the way.
Girl Scout Leadership Experience outcomes:
• Strong Sense of Self
• Positive Values
• Challenge Seeking
• Healthy Relationships
• Community Problem Solving With caring volunteers, trusted mentors, and a supportive environment, Girl Scouts are ready to climb higher, speak louder, and shine brighter.
2026 Goals
• Prioritize mental health through innovative mental wellness resources, programming, and training curated to support girls and the adults who work with them.
• Establish the first Girl Scout Gold Award dual-enrollment course with Central Maine Community College – where high school girls earn credit pursuing this prestigious award.
• Partner with schools to offer afterschool enrichment programming, fostering community-centered development and supporting social emotional learning.
• Amplify programming for older Girl Scouts including international and domestic travel, leadership opportunities, scholarships, and our Highest Awards.
• Expand existing partnerships with local organizations and volunteers, focusing on workforce development and mentorship opportunities for girls in middle and high school.
• Welcome and respect diversity of all kinds so girls of all economic, racial/ethnic, and religious backgrounds; sexual orientations; and abilities come together to grow and learn from one another’s unique experiences.
