Great Northern Paper reboot costs $20K

The No. 6 paper machine, called “Katahdin,” of the Great Northern Paper Co. is back online after a three-day shutdown to make repairs.

The Bangor Daily News reported a worker found a break in one of the machine’s fabric guides Tuesday afternoon that kept the machine shut down until mid-day Friday. Richard Cyr, Great Northern’s CEO, told the paper the repairs cost around $20,000 for the machine and put production around 1,200 tons behind. That deficit will be made up over the next two weeks, delaying shipments by a couple of days, he said.
