The Gulf of Maine Research Institute in Portland will receive $1.3 million in federal funds to investigate fishing communities’ vulnerability to climate change in the northeastern states.
The Associated Press reported that the funding, announced by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Tuesday, will be used to examine ecological, social and economic impacts of climate change on the fishing communities.
The three-year project will provide tools to evaluate communities’ vulnerabilities and possibilities for adaptation, the AP reported.
