GWI and the city of South Portland are partnering to develop high-speed Internet access for residents and businesses in a move that mirrors recent efforts in Rockport.
The Bangor Daily News reported that GWI and city officials are expected to formally announce the partnership Monday for a fiber-optic broadband network that will be far larger than GWI’s project in Rockport because of South Portland’s greater population size.
The high-speed fiber-optic connection will provide a connection speed of 1,000 megabits per second, meaning that it will be able to transfer around 125 megabytes of memory per second.
