Bangor-based professional services firm Haley Ward Inc. acquired the geospatial services division of the James W. Sewall Co. in Bangor.
The deal follows Cumberland-based Sevee & Maher Engineers Inc.’s recent acquisition of Sewall’s civil and traffic engineering and survey practices.
Mapping expertise
For Haley Ward, Sewall’s mapping and GIS division aligns with plans for future growth and multifaceted client services.

“Their expertise and historical impact on the mapping industry align perfectly with our vision for growth and client success,” said Denis St. Peter, Haley Ward’s president and CEO.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition brought on seven Sewall employees, bringing Haley Ward’s workforce to 285 in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Florida, a company spokesperson told Mainebiz in an email. The seven employees will be at Haley Ward’s Bangor headquarters and its Portland office.
The deal expands Haley Ward’s GIS and geospatial services, leveraging combined expertise across disciplines for clients in the geospatial, environmental, planning and engineering sectors.

GIS services help connect planning with accurate, well-managed data.
“By creating verified geodatabases, we’re able to turn complex information into reports and visualizations that decision-makers can quickly understand and use,” the spokesperson said.
Geospatial consulting services also involve developing and building custom applications, field verification, data analysis, asset management and more.
“One example is our Mobile Verify platform, which includes a dashboard, field application and data analysis for utilities’ federal regulatory compliance reporting,” she said. “We deliver these services for clients across the country.”
For now, the employees from Sewall joining Haley Ward will be known as Sewall Geospatial, a division of Haley Ward.
Haley Ward has been in growth mode in recent years. In December, the addition of CCA LLC in Brookfield, Conn., establishes Haley Ward’s third Connecticut office.
