Hancock Lumber, based in Casco, created the role of safety director to lead the company’s safety team and oversee safety programs companywide, working in partnership with team members across all locations.
The company hired Curtis Pratt to fill the role, with a focus to include strengthening systems, supporting continuous improvement and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Pratt brings more than 15 years of experience in safety and health leadership across industries including construction, shipbuilding, defense, energy production and manufacturing.
His background also includes experience in the insurance industry, providing perspective on risk management, prevention and long-term sustainability. Since joining Hancock Lumber in late September, he has been traveling to Hancock’s locations throughout Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts to connect with employees and better understand on-the-ground safety issues.
“Throughout the past 15-plus years of my career, the most rewarding aspect has been the opportunity to engage with people — to better understand their perspectives, appreciate their skills and work together to make work a safer place,” he said.
A Maine resident for nearly three decades, he graduated from the University of Southern Maine and began his career in safety through hands-on experience with commercial electrical and utility projects. He has since led safety initiatives on complex civil and mechanical projects across multiple industries.
