Hannaford Supermarkets said Tuesday it plans to open a second store in Lewiston at the Lewiston Mall.

Hannaford has other area stores on Sabattus Street in Lewiston — 2.7 miles from the new location — and Spring Street in Auburn, about two miles away.
It joins a busy shopping area, which already has a Shaw's Supermarket and a Save-A-Lot grocery.
Hannaford expects to start construction on the Lewiston Mall store in the coming weeks, with an opening anticipated next winter. The store is expected to employ approximately 150 full- and part-time associates.
“All of us at Hannaford are tremendously excited to make our quality food, dependable value and outstanding customer service available to even more shoppers in the Lewiston-Auburn area,” said Todd Bullen, vice president of retail operations for the Scarborough-based chain.
Hannaford Supermarkets was founded in Portland in 1883. Today, it has 68 stores in Maine and 189 locations across New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont. In all, the company has 30,000 employees.
Hannaford is part of Ahold Delhaize, a Dutch conglomerate with 6,500 stores in 11 countries.
