Hannaford Supermarkets said the completion of an expansion of its Gray store, at 130 Shaker Road, accommodates larger produce, meat and seafood departments and a greater variety of grab-and-go, dairy and frozen offerings.
The project added around 12,000 square feet to the 30,000 square-foot store, expanded the parking lot, added a second entrance and self-checkout registers and upgraded the pharmacy with a private consultation room for immunizations.
The remodel incorporated energy-efficient enhancements and features designed to reduce carbon emissions, including a new carbon dioxide refrigeration system and electric cooking equipment.
Saco-based PM Construction built the expansion, which started last fall.
The grocery retailer, headquartered in Scarborough, kept the store open during the project.
The chain employs nearly 30,000 people across 188 stores in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont, with 68 stores in Maine. The company was founded in Portland in 1883 and was acquired in 2000 by the Dutch-Belgian international food retailer Ahold Delhaize, headquartered in the Netherlands.
In 2025, Hannaford donated nearly 29 million pounds of food to hunger relief organizations and supported approximately 145 community partners across its footprint.
