Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care

2024 Goals

To meet current and future cancer patient needs, we are raising $30 million and launching an expansion project in 2023 which will:

  • Increase access and improve patient experience by increasing exam rooms from 15 to 27 and infusion bays from 34 to 44
  • Facilitate centralized multi-disciplinary care by grouping all exam rooms in pods with dedicated clinical offices
  • Enhance quality of life for survivors through an integrated Medical Oncology Home/Survivor Clinic
  • Improve patient flow and space usage by renovating Radiation Oncology and Genetics and Research space
  • Restore and add education and survivorship programs
  • Accommodate more patients by expanding laboratory and pharmacy services

The project’s phases allow for uninterrupted care, include 28,000 square-feet in new construction and 18,000 square-feet in renovated space, and will be completed in fall 2025. The expansion will create jobs in construction and health care, improve recruitment and retention of medical staff, reduce travel time for patients and their families, and use materials that minimize our carbon footprint.

Fundraising events/Opportunities

Oct. 7, 2023: MaineGeneral’s annual Day of Hope brings our region together to honor and fundraise for our cancer community! The event features a beautiful 1.8-mile “Walk for Hope” in Augusta, an inspirational ceremony, cancer and prevention education, a Kids’ Zone, health screenings and integrative therapy sessions – all while raising critical funding for the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care to continue serving patients from across Maine. Form a team from your business, attend as a cancer survivor/fighter or even compete for the title of top fundraiser. Help show your friends and neighbors that no one has to fight cancer alone!
