Maine’s statewide health information exchange has received a $300,000 federal grant to coordinate information systems from private health care providers and the state’s Veterans Administration clinics.
The state and HealthInfoNet said in a press release that the grant from the federal Health Research and Services Administration will connect the VA Maine Healthcare System to a range of private health care providers — like private hospitals, mental health providers, community health centers and physician practices — in an effort to better coordinate care for veterans in the state.
Projections from the VA Office of Rural Health estimate that nearly 12.8% of Maine residents are veterans, the fifth highest rate in the country.
