The average price of heating oil in Maine has dropped below $2 per gallon, reaching its lowest point so far in this heating season.
The Maine Governor’s Energy Office’s weekly heating fuel price survey found that the statewide average price for heating oil was $1.98 per gallon, down two cents from last week and the second time the price has dipped below $2 this season.
The state energy office said Mainers can expect continued low prices as the heating season continues because even if global oil production is cut back, record-level inventories will likely prevent any significant price impact through next year.
The average kerosene price in Maine also dropped two cents to $2.57 per gallon, while the average statewide propane price increased one cent to $2.20 a gallon.
