Hinckley downsizes again

Hinckley Yachts announced lay-offs of 26 more employees at its Trenton facility, and raised the possibility that it might have to close the location.

James McManus, president and CEO, said the latest round of layoffs will take effect Monday, April 27, according to the Bangor Daily News. Citing declining orders, the company laid off about 75 workers last fall. McManus said the company has orders for power yachts to keep the Trenton facility operating through February 2010. If the company does not get enough orders, it will move to another location, reported the paper, but maintain the Trenton facility so it can resume operations when the economy rebounds.

The Trenton plant opened in 1998 and employed between 200 and 300 people there earlier this decade.
