Hollywood Slots caps first year with a near-record July

Hollywood Slots continued its roll in revenues after posting a gain in July that capped the first year of its permanent facility with successive month-to-month increases except one.

The gaming facility, owned by Wyomissing, Pa.-based Penn National gaming Inc., posted gross revenue of $70.5 million in July, the second-highest month since it opened a temporary facility in November 2005, according to the Bangor Daily News. The only other month that exceeded July 2009 was July 2008 — the first month at the permanent facility where the number of slot machines doubled from 500 to 1,000 — when $75.4 million was spent. Except for a drop between June and July, the racino has reported revenue increases every month.

About 50% of the net revenues are returned to the state in some fashion, according to the paper.
