The Holy Donut will close its Brunswick shop on Aug. 23, ending the Portland-based doughnut maker’s two-year run in the Cumberland County town.
The company, led by CEO Jeff Buckwalter, announced the closure on Wednesday.
“We’re incredibly grateful to our Brunswick team and to everyone who has stopped in, supported us, and shared a donut with us along the way,” the company said in a social media post. “Thank you, Brunswick, for being part of The Holy Donut story.”
The 2,240-square-foot shop opened in May 2024 at 145 Pleasant St., taking over a former Tim Hortons. The site was Holy Donuts’ first location in Brunswick and included a drive-thru and parking.
In a phone call Thursday morning, a company representative told Mainebiz that Holy Donut is “very sad” about the closure but declined to comment further.
When the company first announced plans to expand to Brunswick, it touted the opportunity to reach customers in a growing community with a strong year-round population.

The Holy Donut opened its first shop on Park Avenue in Portland in 2010 and built its business around doughnuts made with Maine potatoes. The company closed its Arundel location in 2025. Today, it operates two Portland locations and one in Scarborough.
