Home sales last month rose double digits, while the median sales price managed to also inch up, marking the first price increase since July 2011.
A total of 731 single-family homes were sold in Maine in March, a 13.2% rise over March 2011, according to the Maine Real Estate Information System Inc. The median sales price increased 0.2% to $160,000. For the quarter, home sales have jumped the most in Aroostook County, rising 48%, while they’ve fallen the greatest in Piscataquis County, dropping 26%.
Nationally, home sales rose 5.9% and the median price increased 1.9% to $163,600. Sales in the Northeast were up 5.5%, while prices slipped 1.9% to $228,300.
