One of Bar Harbor’s largest hoteliers recently purchased two more motels in the area.
David Witham on May 12 purchased a Best Western in Salisbury Cove and the White Birches motel in Hancock, according to Fenceviewer.com. Witham already owns the Bar Harbor Inn, the Acadia Inn, the Grand Hotel, the Atlantic Oakes and Conference Center, the Quality Inn and the Aurora Motel, all in Bar Harbor. All total, Witham owns more than 780 rooms in Hancock County, most of which are located on Mount Desert Island. The purchase price of the new motels was not reported.
In early May, Portsmouth-based developer Tom Walsh, another major hotelier in Bar Harbor, submitted plans to the town to develop a $12 million hotel in the downtown.
