‘Housing for Everyone’ is the focus of two TD grants in Maine

Two Maine nonprofits which support housing stability have been awarded grants of $250,000 each from the TD Charitable Foundation.

Penquis C.A.P. Inc., headquartered in Bangor, and Brunswick-based Tedford Housing both plan to use the Housing for Everyone grant funds to provide eviction prevention support.

The organizations are two of 40 nonprofits across the TD Bank U.S. service area — from Maine to Florida — that will receive a total of $10 million in funding through the Housing for Everyone grant program.

Paige Carlson-Heim, head of social impact at TD Bank and director of TD Charitable Foundation, said this year’s grant recipients were selected for their proactive eviction prevention strategies, which help maintain housing continuity, reduce financial stress and contribute to the long-term stability of neighborhoods.

At Penquis, the funding will support close to 155 income‑eligible individuals with eviction prevention services, including rental counseling, tenant education, landlord‑tenant mediation, case management and targeted financial assistance.

“Maine’s high housing costs, wages that have not kept pace, and a severe housing shortage have created conditions that leave far too many people vulnerable to eviction,” said Jennifer Giosia, director of housing and energy services at Penquis.

“Our eviction prevention program supports households at risk by addressing urgent needs while helping build long‑term housing stability. We are deeply grateful for the TD Charitable Foundation’s support of this critical work.”

Penquis works primarily in Penobscot, Piscataquis and Knox counties, serving an estimated 30,000 individuals annually.

Tedford Housing will expand its Homelessness Prevention and Outreach program to provide past-due rental assistance and personalized case management to more low-income households across midcoast Maine that are at imminent risk of eviction.

“Every day, we see how hard people are working just to stay housed — stretching already thin budgets, making impossible trade-offs, and still sometimes falling behind,” said Andrew Lardie, executive director of Tedford Housing. “This funding allows us to step in at that critical moment, before a setback becomes a crisis.”
