It’s open season on deer this weekend as the state’s firearms hunting season begins Saturday morning for Maine residents.
While visits from out-of-state hunters have declined over the last 10 years, the season still draws tourists from over 40 states and Canada, according to the state Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. The season, which runs through Nov. 24, generated $330 million in sales in Maine in 1996, the most recent figures available.
