The Maine Technology Institute has provided 29 Maine-based ventures over $580,000 in grants and loans in its latest round of funding.
The institute announced in a press release Monday that the funding, matched by nearly $1 million in investment from recipients, will go to companies developing technologies for aquaculture and marine uses, biotechnology, environmental technology, forestry and agriculture, information technology and precision manufacturing.
That funding included: $73,495 in TechStart Grants, allocated at up to $5,000 for entrepreneurs and companies looking to bring new products to market; $221,349 in Seed Grants, for early-stage research and development; and $285,217 in Development Loans, for development of new or enhanced products or services that lead to commercialization.
Portland-based Butterfield Technologies and Orono-based Cerahelix won the largest MTI loans, at $186,337 and $98,880, respectively.
