The Island Institute has launched a new business innovation contest to award $10,000 and technical help to promising businesses or startups based on one of the state’s 15 year-round island communities.
According to a press release, the Island Bizplan Contest will run from Feb. 1 through April 12 and is open to businesses and nonprofits with physical addresses on the following islands: Chebeague, Cliff, Frenchboro, Great Cranberry, Great Diamond, Islesboro, Islesford, Isle au Haut, Long, Monhegan, Matinicus, North Haven, Peaks, Swan’s and Vinalhaven.
The first-place winner will take home $7,500 while the second place winner will receive $2,000 and third place will get $500. All businesses or startups that place in the contest also will receive 10 hours of technical assistance through the Island Institute subsidiary, the Island and Coastal Innovation Fund.
